Biography

Dr. Jun Kashihara is an Assistant Professor at Toyo University who is a leading scholar on stigma toward depression. He was certified as a clinical psychologist in Japan in 2014 and completed his PhD at the University of Tokyo in 2017. He seeks to integrate social and clinical psychology to achieve a better understanding of problems regarding depression in Japan and takes a variety of methodologies such as psychological experiments, implicit measurement, vignette surveys, and educational intervention in universities. He conducted a series of research on investigation of implicit stigma toward depression and its reduction. He is also conducting research on social cognition of a recently proposed subtype of depression called “modern type” in Japan (with Prof. Sakamoto at Nihon University), cross-cultural differences in perceptions of modern type depression (with Dr. Kanako Taku) and promotion of first aid actions toward people with depression (with Prof. Anthony Jorm and A/Prof. Nicola Reavley at the University of Melbourne).
