Biography
Dr. Md. Latiful Islam received BSc in Fisheries and MS in Fisheries Management from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Bangladesh. Then, he pursued PhD in Mariculture (Mud Crab) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia. He did his research under Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies (CEMACS), Penang, Malaysia. Dr. Islam did his PhD research on "Mud crab brood stock development, breeding and larvae rearing". After returned back, he devoted research on establishment of larvae rearing protocol of mud crab in Bangladesh. With successive research and development in mud crab larvae rearing, he achieved 7% survival at crablet stage and he is the pioneer of mud crab breeding and larvae rearing sector in Bangladesh. His current research focused on: "Adoption of innovative techniques for enhancement of survival of mud crab larvae'. Besides, he is doing and guiding research on "Coastal aquaculture and breeding"; "Adoption of biofloc aquaculture in coastal region"; "Adoption of climate smart aquaculture in coastal areas of Bangladesh" and so. Very recently he got the charge as Station Chief of Brackishwater Station of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute and guiding/executing all research activities of the Station. He is therefore looking for National and International collaborative research partner and grants to boost up and trigger the fisheries related research, especially on "Coastal and Marine fish/crustacean breeding", "Mangrove aquatic ecology", "women empowering and livelihood improvement through indoor aquaculture" and "Climate related" research in coastal region and mangrove forest of Bangladesh.
