RNA products, Research and Development, Equity advocate, Immunology, Vaccines, Biopharmaceuticals
Brazil

Biography

She holds a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (2013), with an internship at the AIDS Vaccine Research Lab (UW-Madison-USA), a Master's degree in Parasite Biology from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (2005), and a degree in Biomedicine from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (2002). She is currently the Head of the Implementation of a Regional Hub for the Development and Production of RNA Products for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), at the Vice-Directorate for Innovation (Bio-Manguinhos-FIOCRUZ), where she works on the development of RNA-based vaccines and therapies entirely developed in Brazil, with patents filled. This initiative seeks regional self-sufficiency in the production of vaccines and medicines, as well as the democratization of the RNA platform for the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. In 2021, she was awarded by Women in Science of PDA Brazil, and in 2022, by SIBEN-Argentina with the Altruism Award for the Improvement of Global Health, for her important role in the development of the RNA platform in Brazil. In 2024, together with Bio-Manguinhos quality team, she received the Oswaldo Cruz Award granted at the 8th Internation Symposyum on Immunobiologicals for the work of developing the control strategy for RNA vaccines at FIOCRUZ. Also in 2024, she became member of Advisory Board for Chanjo Imperial Hub Initiative- Imperial College London. She is now Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales - Australia. She has 19 years of experience in the areas of Immunology and in the Development of Vaccines and Biopharmaceuticals, as well as have been actively advocating for Public Health and Equity in the Distribution of Vaccines and Health Products in Low and Middle Income Countries.
