Biography

I am a Professor in Geography and Tourism Studies at the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Iceland. I completed a PhD in Physical Geography from the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis at Lund University, Sweden, in 2001, with a major focus on spatial and temporal assessment of land degradation and climate in Iceland. From 2002 to 2007, I was a director of the University of Iceland's Research Centre in Hornafjörður, located in South-eastern Iceland. Since 2007, my tenure at the Department of Geography and Tourism Studies has evolved from an initial role as an associate professor to my current position as a full professor. During the past three decades, I have actively contributed to research in both Geography and Tourism Studies, with numerous peer-reviewed publications. My current research largely focuses on the interrelationship between tourism and the environment, including tourism environmental impact, tourism and climate change, tourism spatio-temporal modeling, wilderness mapping, geotourism, land use management and public participation, communities wellbeing, and determining sustainability indicators for tourism management.
