Biography

Dr Zongyuan Ge is an Associate Professor employed by Monash University eResearch and Faculty of Engineering with a specific interest and expertise in Medical AI development. He has an adjunct position as a Deep learning specialist with the Nvidia AI technology centre. He also serves as a lead research scientist in Airdoc Research and leads a team of 12 research engineers globally. Before he joined Monash Zongyuan was a research scientist at IBM Research Watson Health during 2016-2018. Zongyuan was selected as one of the 200 Most Qualified Young Researchers in Computer and Mathematics by the Scientific Committee of the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation in 2017.

He has a strong background in statistical analysis, machine learning and computer vision research. So far, he has published more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and patents. He has led and contributed to six international projects in the areas of dermatology, ophthalmology and radiology with major industry companies like IBM Watson Health, medical AI unicorn startup Airdoc and medical service provider Molemap. These findings have been translated into health products and services that foster effective infectious disease interventions in Asia-Pacific.

His industry experience in IBM and NVIDIA has helped to define the prototype of the machine learning algorithm for the data platform. His research institute Monash eResearch provides Monash researchers and their collaborators with the ability to access to several High-Performance Computing facilities. This includes the Monash-hosted national specialised data-processing facility for imaging and visualisation.
