Biography
Trained as an electrophysiologist, my initial expertise was the pathophysiology and pharmacology of epilepsy when I was employed as associate researcher at the Department of Neurology of UCLA (Los Angeles, USA). Recruited in 1997 at the University of Strasbourg (France) and currently full professor in neuroscience, I have been working the field of pain for more than 25 years now. My research studies are presently conducted with newborns (pain in childhood), chronic pain patients and, if necessary, preclinical models. Research includes the development of new analgesic therapies, with painkillers but also with non pharmaceutical interventions. I am very much interested in the inhibitory controls of pain and how they may be dysfunctional after early life stress. I am particularly interested to understand the role of neuromediators having a generalized action through neuroendocrine actions such as oxytocin, vasopressin, VIP, neurosteroids and opioids.
