Biography
Kate is a Principal Lecturer in Nottingham's Institute of Education at Nottingham Trent University, prior to taking on this role Kate was Associate Professor at University of Warwick. As a leading voice for learning and teaching in higher education Kate is dedicated to the student experience, focussing her activity on practitioner research, teacher education, professional development assessment and feedback, personal tutoring and SoTL. During her career Kate has gained a Postgraduate Award in Technology Enhanced Learning with Distinction and was awarded a Doctorate in Education in 2022 for her research into higher education communities of practice (HECoPs) and SoTL for professional development of teaching focussed colleagues in Higher Education. Kate has gained Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and created the Warwick Teacher Researcher Network and NTU Close to Practice Partnerships which focus on supporting close to practice practitioner research in schools and enhancing the educational research culture across institutions. Kate set up a transformational teaching Multi Author Blog, a podcast series hosted by BERA on the UN SDGs and has published in MiE and IMPACT the Journal of the Chartered College of Teaching, as well as curating a special edition of BERAs Research Intelligence. Kate is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Innovation in Education, and created the Write Space, a writing retreat consultancy service receiving invitations to the Society for Research in Higher Education conference and ICERI International Teaching and Learning conference in Seville. As an experienced leader of teaching and learning in HEIs Kate brings her significant skills both to teaching, having been awarded SFHEA and the WATE award for teaching excellence, and to educational management. Driving change and supporting colleagues, Kate works collegiately across academic and administrative teams both through committees and when leading projects to deliver exceptional results.
