Biography
My current research utilizes various pharmacological, biochemical and molecular biology techniques, with emphasis on their applications to study epigenetic in cancer biology, oxidative stress damage to the heart & DNA damage repair. By exploiting the state-of-the-art imaging and structural methods including; live-cell imaging, super-resolution microscopy and NMR spectroscopy, I am working to unravel epigenetic and non-epigenetic roles of RYBP in DNA repair and cancer biology. Knowing that DNA repair is one mechanism allows cancer cell to resist therapy; this theme of my research has potential implications in cancer therapeutics.
The novel epigenetic role of the protease, MMP-2, in ribosomal RNA biogenesis, nucleolus function and gene expression in osteosarcoma is also under active investigation which could open new avenues for the deployment of nuclear MMP-2 inhibitors as anti-metastasis in pediatric oncology.
I published 20 manuscripts in prestigious peer-reviewed journals including Circulation, Cell Reports, FEBS Journal and been invited to give over 15 presentations in both national and international conferences. I served as a reviewer of peer-reviewed journals e.g. British Journal of Pharmacology, Frontiers in Oncology & Journal of Cellular Physiology.
I am also a licensed clinical pharmacist (Alberta College of Pharmacy). My practice focused on providing pharmaceutical care to special populations: pediatrics, older adults, HIV and opioid use disorder patients.
