Biography

Full Professor in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) – Pathology (2018) and PhD in Medicine - Urology (1999) by FMUSP. Head of the Sexual Medicine and Andrology Sector of the Urological Clinic Division of the Department of Surgery in the Hospital of FMUSP. Coordinator of the Reproductive Toxicology Unit of the Department of Pathology, FMUSP. Moreover, he is the Men's Health Study Group Coordinator at the Institute for Advanced Studies at USP (IEA-USP) and Technical- Scientific Director of the Androscience - Center for Science & Innovation and Laboratory of high complexity in Andrology. Graduated in Medicine - FMUSP (1989) specialized in urology, andrology, human reproduction, infertility, urological microsurgery, gametes and tissues cryopreservation, and male hypogonadism. As part of his Doctorate from 1996 to 1998, he did a fellowship in basic andrology, studying aspects involving biochemistry, biophysics, physiology and sperm cryobiology, under Ashok Agarwal, PhD. The training in clinical andrology and urological microsurgery under the supervision of Dr Anthony J. Thomas Jr. In 1999 obtained his Doctorate with the study: Creatine kinase as a new marker of sperm function in fresh and cryopreserved semen and its relationship with male infertility. In 2018, obtained the title of Full Professor in Medicine with the study: Effects of continuous use of marijuana and cigarette smoking in testicular function and its relationship with hypogonadism and male infertility. An active member of several medical and scientific societies: American Urological Association (AUA), American Society of Andrology (ASA), American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), Society for the Study of Male Reproduction and Urology (SSMRU), Sociétè Internationale d ‘Urologie (SIU), International Society of Andrology (ISA), Brazilian Society of Urology (“Sociedade Brasileira de Urologia”, SBU) and Brazilian Society of Human Reproductive (“Sociedade Brasileira de Reprodução Humana”, SBRH).
