Biography

Current President of the McLaughlin Research Institute in Great Falls, MT. Research focuses on understanding development to characterize the cell fate decision to form germ line versus somatic lineages and to probe the developmental origins of neurodegeneration. Responsible for identification of one of the first genes specifically implicated in human germ cell development and established techniques to differentiate germ cells in vitro and probe genetic pathways. Also differentiated first dopaminergic neurons from patients with genetically-determined Parkinson's disease.
