Biography

My background is in sociology and social gerontology. I have a doctoral degree from Tampere University from the field of social gerontology. I worked as a University Researcher at the University of Jyväskylä 2009-2015 after which I shared my time between research work at Uni of Jyväskylä and Uni of Tampere. Currently I work at the Tampere University, Faculty of Social Sciences (Health Sciences Unit). My central tasks are linked to activities of the multidisciplinary Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care (CoE AgeCare 2018-225) led by University of Jyväskylä and joined by Tampere University and University of Helsinki. In the CoE AgeCare I act as the leader of the Tampere University group (2022-2025). I have a longstanding interest towards agency of older adults and decision-making in daily life in relation to health, living environment, housing and care. Recently my research has focused on linkages between social wellbeing, living environment and new models of senior housing including collaborative housing models, and inspired by ideas coming from geographical gerontology.
