Personal information
Biography
I've worked at the University of South Alabama (USA) since 2008 teaching courses in criminal justice, political science, research methods, and ones with a special emphasis on racial, gender, sexual orientation identity and their intersectional impacts on social and political outcomes.
My interest in criminal justice had initially led to my accepting a position with the United States Secret Service after the 9/11 attacks but it was my love of research that propelled me to finish my PhD in political science at the University of South Alabama. Instead of returning to intelligence or research within the agency, I took a position at USA and have not looked back since.
One publication I am particularly proud of is a book (https://www.rienner.com/title/Gender_Identity_Sexual_Orientation_and_Sexual_Assault_Challenging_the_Myths) I coauthored with Drs. Sarah Koon-Magnin and Valerie Bryan in which we introduced an update to current rape myth instruments--the Identity Inclusive Sexual Assault Myth Scale (IISAMS).
