Biography
I started my research activity back in 2009 during the realization of my Master Thesis within the Advanced Broadband Communications Centre (CCABA) at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) under the supervision of Prof. Davide Careglio and Prof. Jordi Perelló, enclosed in the framework of the EU project DICONET. During this phase, I worked intensively on the development of a Network Management System (NMS) tool for optical transport networks, taking also the opportunity to deepen my knowledge on software programming and development. At the same time, I started to form myself on the topics of optical networks in general. All these efforts, culminated with the presentation of my Master Thesis, entitled “Development of a Network Management System for the EU DICONET Project”, which was graded with a score of excellent with honours. The developed NMS was employed for the final project demonstration of DICONET in front of the European commission referees, backing up the quality of the work done.
After finalizing my Master Thesis, I started my PhD in 2010 within the Optical Communications Group (GCO) at UPC under the tutelage of Prof. Salvatore Spadaro and Prof. Jordi Perelló. During this phase, I acquired a profound knowledge in the ambit of optical communications, more concretely about optical network optimization, planning, management and control. I also took the opportunity to intensively collaborate in multiple research projects, either national ones (ENGINE, ELASTIC, SUNSET, ALLIANCE) as well as European ones (GEYSERS, STRONGEST, LIGHTNESS, COSIGN, SLICENET). During this time, I also took the opportunity to realize a research stay at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, under the supervision of Prof. Massimo Tornatore to develop further skills and studies about energy efficiency techniques in optical networks. All these experiences allowed me to grow as a researcher and learn how to work in collaboration with heterogeneous groups in the context of large research projects. I finalized my PhD in December 2014, being granted with the grade of excellent cum laude (with honours). From this point up to nowadays, I’m working as a senior researcher within the GCO, developing an intense scientific activity in all the research projects of the group, with special emphasis on the field of optimization and virtualization of optical networks for cloud computing and transport services, as well as the optimization and slicing of 5G infrastructures to accommodate complex services on top. My latest research activities and interests are on the fields of machine learning applied on the context of quality assurance/maintenance in multi- domain/role sliceable 5G-enabled computer and telecommunications networks, with an emphasis on data security anonymity, and optimization and performance assurance in novel disaggregation-based data centre infrastructures.
