Biography
Dr. George Mastorakis graduated from the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering of University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK in July 2000. He obtained his M.Sc. in Telecommunications from the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering of University College London (UCL), UK in November 2001 and his Ph.D. diploma in the field of interactive digital television in September 2008 from the Department of Information & Communication Systems Engineering, Faculty of Sciences of University of the Aegean in Greece. He is serving as an Assistant Professor and a research associate at Technological Educational Institute of Crete, teaching theoretical and laboratory discipline courses/modules in the field of data networks, wireless networks, principles of digital television networks and interactive digital terrestrial television. He is a researcher of "Research and Development of Telecommunication Systems - PASIPHAE" Laboratory in the Department of Applied Informatics and Multimedia at Technological Educational Institute of Crete and at the same time, works as a visiting research fellow in the Centre for Technological Research of Crete, the National Centre for Scientific Research (NCSR) Demokritos and University of the Aegean in Greece. He collaborates with academic staff members of Electronics Business Intelligence Laboratory (e-Business Intelligence Lab) at Technological Educational Institute of Crete and Distributed Information Systems Laboratory in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus. He is a co-supervisor of active Ph.D. candidates in cooperation with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Nicosia. His research interests include mobile networks, interactive marketing, new technologies and marketing, multimedia applications and services, cognitive radio networks, radio resource management, optimization algorithms, interactive digital television (interactive broadcasting), next generation networks, network management, Quality of Service (QoS) through hybrid systems and energy efficient networks.
He has participated in a large number of European research projects of the 6th and 7th European Framework (IST/ICT) Programme and national research projects of the 3rd and 4th Greek Community Support Framework Programme. Indicative research projects include "ATHENA" (FP6-IST-507312), "IMOSAN" (FP6-IST-027457), "PASIPHAE" (GSRT-KR_22) and recent ones of 7th Framework like "VITAL + +" (FP7-ICT-224287), "HURRICANE" (FP7-ICT-1-1.1-216006), "COGEU" (FP7-ICT-248560) and "ALICANTE" (FP7-ICT- 248,652). He has also served as a Technical Manager of several research projects funded by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) of Greek Ministry of Development. Dr. George Mastorakis has served as a peer reviewer of scientific papers in international conferences and journals, as a technical programme committee member of international conferences and workshops and as a member of scientific journals editorial boards. Additionally, he has served as an organizing and scientific committee member of the international conference series, "IEEE International Conference on Telecommunications and Multimedia" (TEMU), which is organized every two years at Technological Educational Institute of Crete. He is editor of Journal of Networks and author of more than 120 research articles in refereed journals, international conferences and edited volumes (book chapters) of scientific books, published in IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley and Taylor and Francis Publishers. He is also author/editor of two books and is a member of Technical Chamber of Greece, IEEE and the National Accreditation Centre of Vocational Training Structures and Accompanying Support Services. Finally, he serves as evaluator of research projects proposals of the European Research Programme "Eurostars", the "Innovative Entrepreneurship" Programme and the "Digital Convergence" Operational Programme of Greece.
