Biography
Pedro Martins, born in 1977, graduated in 2000 with top-ranked classifications in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) was for this reason awarded with the 'José Magalhães Ramos Award' and the 'Engenheiro António de Almeida Award' in 2000.
PhD in Chemical Engineering at FEUP supported by a PhD Scholarship from FCT and research grants from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Fulbright Commission (2001 to 2006). PhD Thesis distinguished with the 2008 Excellence Award in Crystallization of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering.
Assistant Professor (Research) at the Audubon Sugar Institute, Louisiana State University, USA (February 2006 to April 2007) and then FCT Post-Doc and project PI at the Instituto de Biologia Molecular e Celular (IBMC). Full-time Assistant Professor in the Molecular Biology Department of Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS), University of Porto (2009 to 2015). Awarded with the 2013/14 Grant for Young Professors 'Santander Universidades' and with the 2015 Erasmus+ Mobility Programme. Integrated the Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environmental, Biotechnology and Energy (LEPABE) until 2017; launched the translational project “iThroughput” oriented for 'intelligent' screenings of new drugs (2016).
Has several participations at International Conferences and has been distinguished with best poster and best talk awards. By March 2022, Pedro's track record of publications comprised 39 papers in international journals, 5 papers in Conference Proceedings and 10 invited oral presentations at International Conferences. Research Assistant at the Biomolecular Structure and Function group of i3S working on rational drug discovery in Parkinson's disease and Machado-Joseph disease.
