Biography

Presentation!

My name is Evans Adjei, and I am a researcher at the Center for Regional Science (CERUM) at Umeå University. I defended my dissertation in 2018 on the thesis “Relatedness through kinship: the importance of family co-occurrence for firm performance”.

Research!

Given my interest in data analysis and regional development, my research concerns understanding varied regional development questions using econometric models. Specifically, my research examines the relationship between regional factors, firm factors, population and regional development. Through this, I have written theoretically motivated empirical papers on the importance of familial entrepreneurship (and familial relationships) for firm performance, immigration and labour market outcomes of low educated natives, and regional structural changes. I believe my research has contributed to bridging the gap between family business studies and regional science in diverse ways. My work has been published in Journal like Regional Science, Practice and Policy, Regional Studies Regional Science, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, International Journal of Social Economics, and Journal of Rural Studies.

Currently, my research focuses on large scale industrial investments (and industrial expansions) and different dimensions of regional development (e.g., public sector employment, etc.).
