Biography
Jesús Ruiz Espigares has a degree in Biochemistry with a specialization in Molecular Biomedicine (2019) and a master's degree in Translational Medicine and Personalised Medicine (2020) from the University of Granada. In 2018, he obtained an ERASMUS + grant for an international stay at the prestigious Trinity College Dublin, in the international reference group "Thoracic Oncology Research Group" led by Dr. Martin Barr, participating in the project "Investigating the role of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) isoforms in platinum-resistant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)". Subsequently, he received another competitive grant from the Spanish Association Against Cancer Foundation (AECC), developed in the group "Regulation of gene expression and cancer" led by Dr. Pedro Medina Vico at the Pfizer - University of Granada - Andalusian Government Centre for Genomics and Oncology Research (GENYO). In addition, he has also received the Collaboration grant from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, developed in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology III and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine of Granada, University of Granada with the project "3D Bioimpression of tumour microenvironments" in the group "Advanced therapies: differentiation, regeneration and cancer" directed by Dr. Juan Antonio Marchal Corrales, group focused on research into the processes of cell differentiation, as well as their normal and pathological development, addressing them at three levels: macroscopic, cellular and molecular. His research focuses not only on the basics, but also clearly on translation, with the possibility of application in diagnosis and therapeutic use of the research. Finally, Jesús received the competitive grant University Teacher Development (FPU) for the completion of his thesis, coupling his training with teaching activity in the Department of Human Anatomy and Embryology at the University of Granada.
Despite his youth, Jesús has made numerous stays in different prestigious laboratories, has received a high level of training with the completion of a large number of courses, attendance at conferences and presentations at them, and has received several awards for his career, highlighting the Best Career Award for Young Researchers, awarded by the Social Council of the University of Granada, as well as the First Prize for Best Computational Analysis on Melanoma Genetic Data, with echo in the national press. In addition, in his first year as a doctoral student, he has already published in a high-impact international journal (IF: 15,153/D1).
