Art Therapy

Biography

I am a Senior Clinical-Academic Allied Health Professional (AHP) with roles as Consultant Arts Psychotherapist (50%) based at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) and a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Applied Mental Health Research (50%) at Newcastle University, Population Health Sciences Institute, Faculty of Medical Sciences. I am the Deputy Lead for the NIHR Mental Health Implementation Network (5%).

I have held three NIHR Fellowships. I currently hold an NIHR Advanced Clinical Academic Fellowship within the HEE/NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) Programme - Senior Clinical Lectureship (2021 to 2026), and previously as a NIHR Clinical Trials Fellow (2019), and HEE/NIHR ICA Clinical Lecturer (2015 to 2018).

My current leadership roles include, Programme Lead for the NIHR Mental Health Implementation Network (MHIN), a National Priority Programme, NHS management, professional group leadership, network development and leadership, research project design, development, leadership, delivery and dissemination. I am CI and PI for a number of studies, including national multi-centre RCTs, complex intervention studies, practice and service evaluations, systematic reviews and mixed method and qualitative enquiries.

My research interests include expressive/arts psychotherapies, psychosocial complex intervention development, learning disability and neurodiversity, mental health (adults and children and young people) and secure care. I have led research on primary and social care for people who have learning and developmental disabilities.
