Biography

Born 1948 (Dordrecht, the Netherlands). Studied Political Science and Research Methods at the University of Amsterdam. Obtained doctorandus degree ('drs') in 1970. Obtained doctorate (Dr) in 1983. Employed at the University of Amsterdam since 1971, as lecturer, senior lecturer, associate professor, and, from 1990 onwards, Full Professor of Political Science. Appointed in 2004 Professor of Social Science Research Methods at the University of Nottingham (UK).
Corresponding Member of the Royal Netherlands' Academy of Sciences. (co-)PI of the Dutch Parliamentary Election Studies of 1981, 1982, 1986, of the European Election Studies of 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004 and 2009), and of the British Election Study 2015, as well as of numerous smaller projects.
