Biography

Prof. Bart De Gusseme has obtained a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences from Ghent University in 2011, for his work on the removal of organic micropollutants from wastewater and disinfection of biologically contaminated drinking water. Nowadays, he combines both topics in his research on “Industrial microbial technology for drinking water and (waste)water reuse”.

In 2015, Bart was appointed part-time Professor (10% docent) at the Center for Microbial Ecology and Technology (CMET). He teaches the courses ‘Microbial Ecology & Environmental Sanitation’ and ‘Microbial Reuse Technology'. Bart and his team perform applied research for the water industry, incl. online microbial monitoring, sustainable drinking water production and innovative water reuse schemes combined with resource recovery.
