Biography

Wasiq Silan (I-An Gao) is a Core Fellow at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. She is a Tayal woman from the Mstaranan known as the Nanshi River valley in the northern region of Taiwan. Previously, she was a postdoc researcher in a research project Coming of age in Indigenous communities: Ageing, quality of life and home-based elderly care in Sápmi and Atayal region (2019-2022). She participates in the delegation to the United Nations Permanent Forum regularly. Her research interests and experience are developing sustainable quality-of-life care systems, decolonizing state-Indigenous relationships and collaborative and community-based approaches. She has published in ‘Facets’, ‘AlterNative’, ‘Dutkansearvvi dieđalaš áigečála’, ‘Gerontologia’, ‘Global Qualitative Nursing Research’ and ‘Journal of Gerontological Social Work’.
