Biography

Jacyra de Araujo is a postdoctoral fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), specializing in psychiatry and mental health research. Originally from Brazil, she earned her medical degree from the University of Brasília in 2006 and completed her psychiatry residency at the Institute for the Public Servants of the State of São Paulo (IAMSPE) in 2010. She further specialized in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Federal University of São Paulo in 2011. Before joining VCU, Dr. de Araujo was a research collaborator at Fundação Oswaldo Cruz in Salvador, Bahia, where she focused on the relationship between mental illness and socioeconomic factors among Brazilian youth1. Her research at VCU continues to explore these themes, contributing valuable insights into the impact of social drivers on mental health

Dr. Araujo has published papers in academic journals, including articles on the relationship between depression and multimorbidity, the effects of alcohol consumption on public health, and the use of routine health records to study mental health care in Brazil.
