Biography
Joana Domingues has a degree in Biomedical Engineering (BSc and MSc) from the Department of Physics of the University of Coimbra. Her Master's area of specialisation is in Neuroscience and she conducted her dissertation at the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra (CNC-UC). She used single-point laser scanning confocal microscopy and implemented an image processing and analysis pipeline, and her curiosity about these techniques has increased thereafter. Then, as a research fellow, she joined the Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT), hosted at the Institute for Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health (ICNAS) of the University of Coimbra. There, she participated in the processes of clinical trial management, medical image acquisition (adaptive optics retinal imaging and brain functional magnetic resonance imaging) and manual segmentation of the retinal images. Her main scientific interests are optical imaging, image processing and analysis, statistics and machine learning. She has experience in some microscopy image analysis dedicated software (ImageJ/Fiji, Imaris, Huygens) and programming languages (Java, Matlab, Python, R).
