Biography

I have more than fifteen years of research experience in the field of medical technology with a specialization in computational biomechanics. Since 2006, I have been leading an independent research group at the University of Bern, supervising 14 PhD theses and 7 postdocs. To date, I have published more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

My research aims to gain a better understanding of the biomechanics of tissues and to use this information for diagnostics or planning of interventions. The research methodology relies on exvivo and invivo experimental measurements to complement numerical simulations. Since the models are patient-specific, I have acquired expertise in processing medical images into finite element models, including techniques such as statistical shape modeling and, more recently, deep learning.
