Biography
Dr. Martin Raffaele recently commenced as an entrepreneur, the company of INCLUSIF (https://www.inclusif.com.au). Focusing of educating tertiary students and the workplace about living and working with neurodiversity. Dedicated his last 25-years to researching epilepsy and other disabilities. As a Lecturer at The University of Sydney, Martin uses a Case-Based-Learning method to educate both Undergraduate and Master of Rehabilitation Counselling, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Teachers of the importance of Neurodiversity in the workforce in the Sydney Business School, at both undergraduate and Master of Business Administration (MBA) levels. These course modules have increased the acceptance of, and reduced prejudice shown by students towards future patients who experience disability. A similar approach is also being used in INCLUSIF through the use of video education. Dr Raffaele is currently writing a book on Adult Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). While studying, Martin completed a Master of Education (Research) and moved on to Master of Philosophy (MPhil) research degree, with the thesis focusing on the Psychosocial effects that school-age children with Child Absence Epilepsy experience when their condition is Misdiagnosed as ADHD. The Australian Postgraduate Award was provided to conduct a Doctor of Psychology (PhD), which focused on the Subjective Well-Being in Australian Men after Neurosurgery for Adult-Onset Epileptic Seizures. He continues to use a 1st-person perspective to education interested minds about the day-to-day aspects of living with a neurodiversity, such as epilepsy. By using his experiences and academic knowledge with epilepsy to educated others, his disability that a number of people would judge as a negative burden becomes a positive aspect in his life. Based on these achievements and more, despite experiencing two brain surgery procedures, an autobiography has also been requested for general reading. Martin volunteers his time both as a Steering Committee member and as a mentor in the Disability At Work Network (DAWN), which in 2022 received the National Disability Leadership Award for Innovative.
