Biography
Mabel Alejandra Urrutia Martínez is a PhD in Psychology from the University of La Laguna, where she obtained the degree of European Doctor in 2010. In addition, she has a solid background in the field of Linguistics, an area in which she completed her Master and PhD studies at the University of Concepción (Chile) and was distinguished in 2008 with the Rodolfo Oroz Award of the Chilean Academy of Language for her contribution to the Science of Language. She has several postdoctoral stays in different international centers related to her discipline, such as the Center for Neuroscience in Cuba, Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen (Holland) and the University of York in England. From all these places, and mainly from her stay at the University of La Laguna, she has learned different recording and brain stimulation techniques such as electroencephalography, Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for the study of language.
Mabel Urrutia is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education of the Universidad de Concepción. Her research interests include the following: Neural bases of reading comprehension; Social exclusion through brain stimulation techniques; Study of innovative teaching methodologies and their influence on learning at the neurocognitive level; Reading Motivation.
Mabel Urrutia actively participates in research projects of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain and Regular Fondecyt Projects in Chile. Currently, she is the Responsible Researcher of the Fondequip Project EQM180008: "Acquisition of a portable electrophysiology equipment with wireless system for the study of innovative teaching methodologies and their influence on learning at the neurocognitive level", funded by CONICYT, which allows hyperscanning studies in natural environments such as the classroom to establish the brain oscillatory dynamics of cognitive processes associated with learning.
Mabel Urrutia publishes regularly in ISI indexed journals (Cognitive Affective and Behavioral Neuroscience; Neuroscience; Neuropsychologia; Brain Research; Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience; Plos One; Brain Sciences). In recent years, she has been dedicated to the training of advanced human capital in the various PhD and Masters programs in which she collaborates as the PhD in Linguistics, PhD in Psychology and Education at the University of Concepción. She is also an associate researcher at the CIAE (Center for Research in Advanced Education) of the University of Chile and the Institute of Neuroscience of the University of La Laguna (Spain). She directed the Paideia Journal of the Faculty of Education of the Universidad de Concepción during the years 2017-2022.
She has been a guest professor at the Central University of Ecuador and the University of La Laguna on several occasions through international mobility agreements with these institutions. During the last 5 years she has done an important work of dissemination of Neuroscience through the international and national exchange of several researchers in the area of Neuroscience and through the creation of a Diploma of Neuroscience applied to education. He has also presented several conferences with the results of his research in different national and international universities and educational establishments in the Bío-Bío Region.
