Biography
I have lived and worked in the United Kingdom since 1980, having trained and qualified in 1974 as a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad. My family origins is from the south eastern part of Turkey, who for occupational reason relocated to Northern Iraq, then part of the Ottoman Empire in the late-18th Century.
After completing residency posts in Iraq, I decided to specialise in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK. My progression in the specialty included successfully completing my professional exams from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and a Doctor of Philosophy in Reproductive Endocrinology from London University.
My move to Cardiff University was a pivotal moment in my professional and academic career. As a clinical academic I was able to; explore and put into effect new clinical and research ideas and concepts; develop productive research collaborations with a number of research groups within Cardiff University and elsewhere; and set up an innovative spin-out company at Cardiff University to pioneer the use of simulation in ultrasound education and training. The company is now listed on AIM, London Stock Exchange.
Following my retirement from Cardiff University, I decided to focus on my interest in education and together with my wife, a General Practitioner, we incorporated limited companies to establish educational partnerships with other like-minded organisations and deliver distance learning medical education for the UK and the rest of the world.
