Biography

Dr. Jing Zhao is a Lecturer and DECRA Research Fellow in the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering (MERE) at UNSW Sydney. She got her Ph.D. in 2022 from the Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) at the University of Queensland (UQ). Prior to joining UNSW, she worked as a Research Fellow at UQ's Sustainable Minerals Institute. Her research focuses on sustainable mining, biohydrometallurgy, microbiology, and biotechnology. Her work emphasizes leveraging microbial processes to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the mining industry. She also has extensive industry experience in areas such as sustainable mining, gas sensor development for underground mining environments, and biological wastewater treatment processes. With a multidisciplinary background and a strong commitment to sustainability, Dr. Zhao is dedicated to advancing technologies that drive innovation for a more sustainable future. Her research has been featured in leading journals, including Environmental Science & Technology, Nature Communications, and Water Research.
