Biography
Adilia Januário Charmier- PhD in Organic Chemistry (1993), Université Blaise Pascal (France). She is currently Associate Professor and Invited Full Professor at Universidade Lusófona (UL, Lisbon, Portugal). She is director of the Bachelor of Biotechnology, Co-director of the Postgraduate Program in Circular Economy in collaboration with the IMAT group of the University of Trier, IfaS, Germany.
She dedicated her academic career teaching courses in the field of General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Chemistry of natural products, supervising several national and international Masters, PhD students and international postdoctoral researchers.
In terms of research, she is the coordinator of the research Centre DREAMS at the Faculty of Engineering of UL and researcher at the Centre of Structural Chemistry (CQE) at IST-UNL (Portugal). Its main scientific research includes 1)- the extraction of medicinal plants and organic wastes using green microwave technologies and bioprocesses for the production of new biologically active products and their applications in the fields of health, pharmaceutical, nutraceuticals and biomaterials; 2)- the synthesis of new biological Metal-coordinated compounds using natural compounds as ligands.
Since 2017 till 2021, she was the Scientific Senior Advisor and Vice President of Research and Development of the Company EXMCeuticals Inc. (Vancouver, Canada) and worked in funded research projects with international companies namely Cerebio, Coutras (France) and VitroBio, Issoire (France) in collaboration with Lusófona University. She has been co-founder of the Portuguese subsidiary EXMceuticals Portugal Lda where she was CEO until December 2019 and Chief of Chemical Processes Officer till December 2021.
Her scientific research activity resultes in 90 national and international scientific publications distributed by peer-reviewed international journals, conferences and 3 patents and also has been marked by the participation and organization of seminars and conferences in collaboration with several national and international institutions namely, the Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal), the University of Edinburgh (Scotland), the University of Trier, IfaS, (Germany), the University positivo (Brasil), the University of Al Akhawayn, Ifrane (Morroco).
