Biography
Dr. Iveta Kestere is Professor for History of Education at the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art, University of Latvia. Her research projects are focusing on the creation and training of the ‘New Soviet Man’ (in collaboration with the University of Vilnius, Lithuania), visual propaganda in education under European totalitarian regimes, and the history of Education sciences. Her other research work concerns the beginnings of computer training in Latvia and the prestige of the teaching profession. She is the author of numerous internationally published articles and the author and co-editor of several books, such as the collected volume (co-edited with Ene-Silvia Sarv and Irena Stonkuviene) 'Pedagogy and Educational Sciences in the Post-Soviet Baltic States, 1990–2004: Changes and Challenges' (Riga: University of Latvia Press, 2020). She serves in the editorial board of academic journal Acta Paedagogica Vilnensia (Lithuania), as well as at the international advisory board of Paedagogica Historica. Kestere was an invited researcher and guest lecturer at the KU Leuven (Belgium), at the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research (Germany), and at the Vilnius University (Lithuania). She was member of Executive Board of International Standing Conference for the History of Education (ISCHE) from 2011 to 2014. She was Co-convenor and Link Convenor for Network 17, Histories of Education, European Education Research Association (EERA) from 2015 to 2023. She is a board member of the Latvian Educational Research Association and Chair of the Council of Professors in Educational Sciences at the University of Latvia. She is also acting as scientific expert in Education at the Council of Sciences of the Republic of Latvia.
