Biography
After his MSc in 1992 in Electronic Engineering by the University of Extremadura, Spain in 2003, Dr E Pereira was a grant-holder in a Research Project from the Spanish Government devoted to Monitoring and Control of Vibrations in Aerospace Flexible Structures. He received the Ph.D. degree in Mechatronics from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, in 2009. The thesis involves monitoring and active damping of vibrations in flexible structures and dynamic control of flexible robots.
During his PhD, he was a Researcher with the ARC Centre for Complex Dynamic Systems and Control, supervised by the Professor Reza Moheimani in University of Newcastle, Australia. The collaboration with Prof. Moheimani resulted in some journal and conference papers about vibration damping using piezoelectric materials and precise positioning of flexible robots.
After his PhD, he was a post-doctoral grant holder in School of Engineering (University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom), supervised by the Dr. Sumeet Aphale. The collaboration with Dr. Aphale is currently active. They have published 5 journal papers and 1 conference papers. The topics are piezoelectric, control theory, flexible robots, active isolations and eliminating stick-slip vibrations in drill-strings.
In 2010, Dr. Pereira starts as assistant lecture in the Polytechnic School of Engineering, Universidad de Alcalá, Spain. From 2018, he is Senior Lecture in this University. During these 12 years, Dr. Pereira has taught subjects in the areas of Structural Theory, Technical Drawing and Mechanics.
In 2013, he obtained a competitive grant to be involved in the Vibration Engineering Section, University of Exeter, with the Full Professor Paul Reynolds. The collaboration with Prof. Reynolds, started in 2010, thanks to the collaboration between Dr. Pereira and the Full Professor Iván M. Díaz (University Politecnic of Madrid). The collaboration with these researchers have been focused in active vibration damping in civil structures. Dr. Pereira has published 7 journal and 3 conference papers with Prof. Reynolds.
Thanks to the collaboration with Prof. Reynolds and Prof. Díaz, Dr. Pereira was in the University of Valladolid in 2015 with the Full Profesor Antolín Lorenzana Ibán. From this year, Prof Ibán and Dr. Pereira have published 2 journal and 1 conference papers.
Dr. Pereira have been collaborated with the Full Professor Sancho Salcedo Sanz in metaheuristic optimization method and, recently, in Machine Learning method applied to vibration control, optimal design of structures and health monitoring of structures. Dr. Pereira and Prof. Salcedo-Sanz have published 9 journal papers.
Dr. Pereira and Dr. Pedro Gil-Jiménez have recently developed a Novel Leg-Based Stair-Climbing Wheelchair. They have published 1 journal and 2 conference papers together in this topic.
Dr. Pereira has also researched in Levitation Platform and Ultra-efficient wireless powered micro-robotic joint for health applications (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/857654) in collaboration with Dr. Ignacio Valiente Blanco and Full Professor Efrén Díez Jiménez.
