Biography

Dr. Ndivhuwo Shivambu obtained a BSc in Botany and Zoology and an Honours in Zoology at the University of Venda. She completed her MSc in Zoology at the University of Pretoria, where her project examined the influence of the pet trade and scientific laboratories on the potential spread of invasive Rattus species in South Africa. In 2021, she completed her PhD in Zoology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg campus, focusing on the risk associated with exotic small mammals in the South African pet trade. She is also interested in exotic bird species, especially those in the pet trade and those with a feral population outside their native range. She is interested in how invasive bird species affect other native birds and is the author of two book chapters on Global Trends and Impacts of Alien Invasive Birds. She is a member of the Zoological Society of Southern Africa and is affiliated with the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence for Invasion Biology and Centre for Functional Biodiversity.
