Biography

Dr. Brian Johnston is a Microbiology and Biotechnology Senior Lecturer and Researcher and an alumnus of the University of Wolverhampton. He is also the founder of iBiotech, with a PhD in Microbiology and Biotechnology that he earned in 2020. During his PhD, he focused on the development of innovative methods to recycle a variety of waste plastic carbon sources for the biological synthesis of bioplastics. Dr. Johnston has lectured on topics such as Bioremediation, Recycling and Chemical Characterisation, using NMR, GPC and ES-MS methods. Some of the bioplastic materials that resulted from his research have been used for 3D printing, and other sectors, including agriculture, fashion and medicine. Dr. Johnston has authored over 20 publications and received multiple citations in international scientific journals. He has also worked on several post- doctoral placements, with projects supported by both the EU and Midlands Engine. Furthermore, he has established a network of academic and industrial partnerships, including institutions such as SINTEF (Norway) and the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and NERC (National Environmental Research Council).
