Biography
Antonio OMETTO was born in Rieti, Italy, in 1958 and received the electrical engineering degree from L’Aquila University, Italy, in 1986. In 1987 he was in Sheffield (UK) where he collaborated with the Research Group on Electrical Machine and Drives of Sheffield University. From 1990 to 2002 he was an Associate Researcher of power converters, electrical machines and drives at the University of L'Aquila. In 1993 he was in Madison, Wisconsin (USA), where he collaborated with Prof. T. Lipo from the University of Wisconsin. Since 2002 he is Associate Professor at the University of L'Aquila, where has held courses of electrical machines, power electronics, electrical actuators, and electrical systems for mobility. His research interests include modeling, fault diagnosis and control of rotating and linear electrical machines, power converters for electrical drives, torque ripple in induction motors due to harmonics and sub-harmonics of the supply voltage, permanent magnet speed reducers and fuel cell hybrid vehicles. Prof. Ometto is member of the scientific board of Interdepartmental Center of Transportation and Sustainable Mobility (CITraMS) of L'Aquila University.
PUBLIC FOUNDED PROJECT
1. European project Life 3H, “Hydrogen demonstration in city, port and mountain area to develop integrated hydrogen valleys” (2021-2025)
2. HORIZON 2020 Project ReFreeDrive “Rare Earth Free e-Drives”, Call H2020-GV-2016-2017 Green Vehicles (2017-2020). The ReFreeDrive project starts in October 2017 and is focused on avoiding the use of rare earth magnets through the development of a next generation of electric drivetrains, ensuring the industrial feasibility for mass production while focusing on the low cost of the manufacturing technologies. The proposal intended to study and to develop different solutions for the traction systems based on brushless AC electrical machines and rare-earth magnet free. The partnership includes: Cidaut, Jaguar Land Rover, Euro Copper Association, Aurubis, Breukmann, Privè, IFPEN, R13 Technology (36 months).
3. PON 2014-2020 project Lube for life – Electromechanical actuators for primary flight control systems, life lubricated. The project had the goal to develop an innovative electromechanical actuator for primary flight control systems of commercial aircraft and unmanned air vehicles UAV. The hint is that the components have been designed to avoid re-lubrication for the whole operating time. The main activities were carried out within the development of the electromechanical actuators and custom position sensors.
4. European Project 7PQ CleanSky (2014-2016): “HyPerMAC - Hyper Performance Motor, Air-Cooled”, the project was focused on the development of electrical drive (motor and Power electronics) for the electric actuation of the tail rotor of helicopters. The partnership included Airbus Innovation, Umbragroup SpA and University of Jule Verne (UPJV).
5. Regional Project SMART ROLL “New solutions of stator windings with flat wires (hairpins)”, research program PAR FSC 2007 2013 (EU funds), main contractor TECNOMATIC.
