Biography

My research interests include membrane transport and lipid-protein interactions. He is the Danish pioneer in the emerging field of biomimetic membranes where transmembrane proteins are reconstituted into membrane-mimicking materials for technological applications. This is reflected in his strong innovation profile manifested in his leadership of the R&D activities at the Danish cleantech company Aquaporin A/S from 2006-2018. In this period the company grew from 2 to more than 100 employees with subsidiaries/joint ventures in Denmark, Singapore and China. Today biomimetic aquaporin membranes are being produced and commercialized in full scale in Aquaporin A/S. He is member of the Danish Natural Science Academy from which he received the Industrial Price in 2013 and has received the European Innovator Award in 2014 for his groundbreaking work in biomimetic membrane technology development.
