Biography
Franco Mazzei, Full Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Dept. of Chemistry and Drug Technologies, University of Rome “La Sapienza”, is responsible for the Biosensors Laboratory. He has published over 100 papers in national and international scientific journals and four patents with industrial partners on various aspects of electrochemical and optical sensors and biosensors in national and international journals. He is presently involved in several research projects related to the development of biosensors for the determination in real samples, with grants from both government and private institutions. Biosensors Laboratory research group is involved in the field of electrochemical sensors and biosensors, with specific experience in the development of biocatalytic electrodes, some of them also covered by European patents. The research activity of the last years has been focused on the bioelectrochemical characterization of redox proteins, the development of nanotechnology-based biosensors as well as on the realization of SPR based immunosensors. The newly developed sensors were used to face and solve different problems in clinical, toxicological and food fields, often as an alternative to more complex analytical procedures.
