Biography

Professor Susanne Cruickshank is the Strategic Lead for Applied Health Research at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, London. Susanne joined from the University of Stirling where she was Associate Professor in Cancer Nursing, Chair of the Cancer Care Research Group and Director of the Masters in Advancing Practice and with Faculty programmes. She was appointed an honorary Professor at the University of Stirling in April 2021. With over 25 years’ experience working in oncology and haematology, she started her clinical career caring for people undergoing surgery for head and neck cancer then moved into haematology and transplantation, breast cancer surgery and chemotherapy services before joining the University.

Susanne is passionate about clinical academic careers and the opportunities it affords to promote the synergy between research, practice and policy. Her research is interdisciplinary and clinically applied; seeking to improve the lives of people affected with cancer, inform health policy and education. She gained her doctorate in 2014 from Edinburgh Napier University using a randomised controlled trial to assess the effectiveness of a using needs assessment tools in a breast cancer follow-up clinic. Her current portfolio includes Cochrane systematic reviews, qualitative studies exploring the experiences of people using different healthcare settings, cytotoxic safety and a focus on needs; specifically fear of recurrence among cancer survivors and fear of progression in the secondary cancer population.
