Biography
Gerald Franzl received the academic degree Dr. techn. (eq. PhD) and Dipl.-Ing. (eq. M.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering from the Vienna University of Technology (TUW), Austria, in 2015 and 2002, respectively. From Feb. 2004 till June 2007 he was employed at MEDIORNET GmbH, developing a fibre based network solution for multimedia content distribution in the professional broadcast industry. From 2002 till 2015 he also participated in national and international research projects via the Institute of Broadband Communications later Institute of Telecommunications at the Vienna University of Technology. His research than concentrated on optical networks and traffic engineering, QoS sensitive routing and control and E2E performance evaluation by queueing models and simulation studies. From February 2016 till October 2019 he was employed at a small software company as Chief R&D Engineer contributing to the national funded project IES Austria (www.iesaustria.at), on establishing a cooperation scheme that fosters vendor agnostic interoperable solutions for smart energy systems and services based on jointly specified, use-case specific integration profiles. From February 2020 till March 2023 he was employed at TU Wien and Danube University Krems, contributing to the R&D projects SONDER and cFlex respectively, on establishing and operating regional and local energy communities. Since April 2023 he is full time employed at University for Continuing Education Krems (former Danube University Krems), Department for Integrated Sensor Systems, Center for Distributed Systems and Sensor Networks, working in the funded R&D projects eAlloc, EnergyDec, and DiPS4EV@work, leading latter. 2008 he achieved certification to Junior Project Manager (IPMA Level_D), 2015 to Process Analyst (PcA), 2016 to EBC*L Certified Manager, and ISTQB® Certified Tester (foundation level), 2017 to Digital Transfer Manager (DTM).
