Biography
João Afonso Braun Neto holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Porto - Faculty of Engineering (2024), along with a dual degree obtained in 2019: a Master's in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and a Bachelor's in Electronic Engineering from the Federal University of Technology - Paraná (Toledo Campus). Currently, he works as a postdoc researcher at the Research Centre in Digitalization and Intelligent Robotics (CeDRI) at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança and as an assistant researcher at INESC TEC - CRIIS. He also serves as an assistant professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. His academic contributions include over 35 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and indexed international conferences.
In the academic community, he served as co-chair of European RoboCup Junior 2022 and chaired sessions on machine learning and artificial intelligence at OL2A 2023 and ROBOT 2023. He conducts robotics and electronics workshops for secondary school teachers in Bragança and Porto districts, and his work has been featured in three major Portuguese newspapers, including "Observador." His research has been supported by two doctoral fellowships: the PhD INPhINIT Fellowship from "la Caixa" Foundation (2020) and the FCT Fellowship (2024). His research focuses on autonomous robotics, Internet of Things, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
