Biography

Dr Kofi Adomako-Ansah is an Economic and Exploration Geologist who applies geology, petrology, mineralogy, and geochemistry to model ore genetic processes and environments for applications to (1) the understanding of local and regional vectors towards ore deposit systems, (2) mineral exploration, (3) resource evaluation of large- and small-scale mining projects, (4) geotechnical engineering, and (5) the environmental geosciences. He is also carrying out recent applications of geochemical and statistical evaluation techniques to assess the quality and petroleum source-rock potential of the Tano Basin hydrocarbon systems of Ghana.

He is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geological Engineering since 2019. He is the current Head of the Department of Geological Engineering and a former Vice Dean of the Office of International Programmes at UMaT. Prior to his appointment at UMaT, he was an Assistant Professor (2016-2018) and Post-doctoral Research Fellow (2012-2015) at Akita University, Akita City, in Japan.

His scientific domain is in the mineral resources and the geological and geochemical processes that influence the formation of Metallogenic Provinces, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrogenesis and Tectonics. His primary research focus is on precious, base, and rare earth metal deposits in diverse geological environments including orogenic, epithermal, magmatic, volcanogenic and seafloor ore deposits.

His specialties include Economic & Ore Deposit Geology, Ore Genesis Modelling, Major & Trace Element Geochemistry, Water-Rock Interactions, Geochemistry of Hydrothermal Fluids & Alteration, Mineral Thermodynamics, Ore Mineralogy & Petrology, Fluid Inclusion Geochemistry, and Isotope Geochemistry.
