Expertise in developing prototypes for bench-scale, pilot-scale-demonstration facilities for characterisation and development of thermochemical conversion of biomass and wastes to energy and organic products. Most relevant prototypes and demonstration installations include:
Demonstration Prototype 1: Design, construction, and optimization of a pilot-scale (30 kWth) bubbling fluid bed reactor at the Department of Environment and Planning of the University of Aveiro for study and demonstration research in combustion processes of coal, biomass, solid wastes, including auxiliary systems for monitoring and control of operation, and flue gas treatment.
Demonstration Prototype 2: Design, assembly, operation and optimization of a pilot scale (75 kWth) bubbling fluidized bed reactor at the Department of Environment and Planning of the University of Aveiro for demonstration studies of biomass gasification, including auxiliary systems for monitoring and control of operation, producer gas treatment and gas burning.
Demonstration Prototype 3: Design, assembly, operation and optimization of a facility to evaluate the performance of biomass combustion in domestic stoves, including biomass consumption monitoring systems, air supply, temperature and pressure, gas sampling and analysis, and operation monitoring and data acquisition in real time.
Prototype 4: Design, assembly, operation and optimization of a bench-scale fixed bed reactor, fluidized bed reactor, and prototype of auger reactor to study the pyrolysis process of distinct biomass types, including the systems for monitoring and control of operation and data acquisition in real time.
