Biography
Akira Igarashi is currently a professor of Disaster Prevention Research Institute of Kyoto University, Japan. He is also an affiliate faculty member of Department of Urban Management, Graduate School of Engineering. In 2016–2018, he served as the director of Research Center for Fluvial and Coastal Disasters. The research topics of Prof. Igarashi are centered around various engineering issues related to structural design and evaluation of dynamic behavior from the viewpoint of structural dynamics and control, earthquake engineering, for large-scale infrastructures. The area of interest also covers the development and application of seismic response modification devices, design methods against extreme events, active/semi-active structural control technologies, evaluation of aging deterioration and maintenance, as well as application of the hybrid simulation testing technique fluid-structure interaction problems.
