Biography
Dr. A. Amarender Reddy is an agricultural economist currently serving as the Joint Director, Crop Health Policy Support Research at the ICAR-National Institute of Biotic Stress Management (ICAR-NIBSM) in Raipur, India. With a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI) in New Delhi, he started on his career with the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in 2001. His initial posting was at ICAR-IIPR in Kanpur, and since then, he is mostly engaged in agricultural economics research in general and implementation of agricultural development schemes and the evaluation of government flagship initiatives in particular.
Dr. Reddy also worked as the Director (Monitoring and Evaluation) and in developing information technology systems as the in-charge Director of ICT at the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) in Hyderabad. His illustrious career also includes roles as an Associate Professor in Public Policy at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) in Hyderabad, as Scientist in Economics at ICRISAT in Hyderabad, a Senior Research Officer at the Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) in Lucknow, and a Principal Scientist in Agricultural Economics at ICAR-IARI in New Delhi and also as Head, Systems and Design and Analysis at ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (ICAR-CRIDA), Hyderabad.
Dr. Reddy also worked briefly with Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) in New Delhi where he worked under Chronic Poverty in India project. He also worked at National Council of Applied Economics Research (NCAER), New Delhi, where he assessed government schemes aimed at alleviating poverty. His work is mainly based on extensive databases related to inequality, poverty, and household incomes, utilizing data bases from sources such as National Sample Survey Organisations (NSSO) and National Family Health Surveys (NFHS) and applying the appropriate econometric tools to evaluate and measure the different socio-economic indicators and impact of government programs.
Dr. Reddy's significant contributions to the economics research is evidenced by his publications of over 100 research articles, amassing more than 2,862 Google Scholar citations, and boasting an impressive h-index of 29 and an i10 index of 80. His research has been featured in esteemed publications such as Economic and Political Weekly, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Food Policy, Journal of Natural Resource Policy Research, Food Security, Agricultural Economics Research Review, and Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics. His dedication extends to his role as a reviewer and editor for national and international journals, including Journal of Food Legumes, Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, Agricultural Economics, Water Policy, Journal of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Economics Research Review, World Development, Food Policy, Food Security, Journal of Decision Sciences, Cogent Social Sciences, Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems, among others.
Dr. Reddy's outstanding contributions to the field have been recognized, and he holds the title of Fellow of the Indian Society of Pulses Research & Development (ISPRD) in Kanpur, with a prestigious recognition award to his name. He is also The Fellow of Indian Society of Agricultural Economics (ISAE), Mumbai. Furthermore, he has been actively involved in high-level government committees, participating in the evaluation of projects for organizations such as JBIC, THPC, KVIC, NIRD&PR, NABARD, the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, and the erstwhile Planning Commission.
