Biography
Mehrdad Rayejian Asli is an Iranian Criminologist and Victimologist. He earned a PhD in Criminal Law and Criminology from Shahid Beheshti University (SBU) in 2006. He is assistant professor of the Institute for Research and Development in the Humanities (SAMT Org.), Tehran, Iran.
Rayejian began his int. career with visiting scholars @ Leiden University (Netherlands) in 2002, and Max-Planck Institute (Germany) in 2005. The latter resulted in his 1st Eng. article entitled "Iranian Criminal Justice System in the Light of Int. Standards Relating to Victims" (EU J. Crime, Criminal Justice, 14(2), 2006).
His another article, "Introducing a General Theory of Victimology in Criminal Sciences" (Int. J. Humanities, 20 (3), 2013), has been recognized as the most cited publications by int. social networks including GoogleScholar, ResearchGate, Academia etc. His coauthor chap. on "Forced Marriage in Islamic Countries" was released by Springer in 2016.
His recent books in Persian "CRIMINOLOGY: An Introduction & Overview" (2018; New Ed. 2023: SAMT), "Victimology: Authorial Syllabuses, Vol. I" (2019), Victimology: Translational Syllabuses, Vol. II" (2021: SDIL Pub., Tehran, Iran), and CRIMINOLOGY: The Essentials (2022; New Ed. 2023: Negah-e-Moaser Pub.) are known as the most referenced textbooks in the universities of Iran.
He served as deputy research at the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights, Peace and Democracy, and also has cooperated with the editorial board of an affiliated international journal there.
Rayejian's Eng. chap. entitled "Incorporating the United Nations Norms into Iranian Post-Revolution Criminal Policy: A Criminological-Victimological Approach" has been published in a book (Kury, H., Redo, S. [eds]. Crime Prevention and the UN in 2030, Springer) on Feb. 2021. This book was launched in the 14th UN Congress of Prevention of Crime and Criminal Justice held in Kyoto, Japan on March 2021. Rayejian also presented a webinar lecture in this congress about the impact of COVIID-19 Pandemic on domestic violence in Iran. He has written several articles about the COVID-19 pandemic, including "A Criminological Approach to the COVID-19 Pandemic with a Comparative Perspective Base on Iran's and World's Data" (World Sociopolitical Studies: Iranian World Studies Association and Faculty of World Studies, University of Tehran, 2021), and "Crime Rates and Criminal Justice Policies in the Advent of COVID-19 Pandemic: Some Criminological Issues" (Int. J. New Political Economy: SBU, 2021).
Rayejian's article entitled "Protecting Victims of Terrorism in the Light of Global Criminology: International Experiences and Developments in the Early Third Millennium" has been released in the Int. Annals of Criminology by CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS in Apr. 2021.
In 2022, Rayejian published two articles entitled "A Criminological Approach to International Prevention of Terrorism with a Particular Attention to Terrorist Financing in the Iranian Criminal Policy" (coauthored in the World Sociopolitical Studies: Iranian World Studies Association and Faculty of World Studies, University of Tehran, 2022), and "Capacities of Restorative Practices Within Domestic Customs and Traditions: The Societal-Cultural and Legal Experiences of Iran". The recent chapter has been published in a book entitled "Minding the Gap Between Restorative Justice, Therapeutic Jurisprudence, and Global Indigenous Wisdom" (IGI Global, USA, 2022).
He has also been appointed as a member of the editorial boards as well as the associate editor of int. scientific journals in US, Russia and Iran.
Since 2023, Rayejian has joined the International Society of Criminology (ISC, USA) and South Asian Society of Criminology & Victimology (SASCV, INDIA). He has presented a paper entitled "Fragmenting Criminology: Past, Present and Future (Micro-criminologies of the Third Millennium) in the Conference of British Society of Criminology (BSC) on June 2023. His latest article entitled "Fragmentation of Criminology: a Challenge or a Chance?" has been published in the Asian Journal of Criminology on March 2024. He taught the topic of "Micro-criminologies" in the Int. Short-term Course on New Criminologies and Victimologies organized by Int. Inst. Justice & Police Sciences, and SASCV on Aug. 2024.
In the light of his international relationship, Rayejian has been in collaboration with some of famous scholars, inter alia, including Prof. E. Viano (USA), Prof. H. Kury (Germany), Prof. H.J. Albrecht (Germany), Prof. S. Walklate (UK), Prof. S. Redo (Austria), Prof. K. Jaishankar (India), and Prof. J. Liu (China).
