Biography
Luca Turchet is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of University of Trento, where he leads the Creative, Intelligent and Multisensory Interactions Laboratory (www.cimil.disi.unitn.it).
He received master degrees (summa cum laude) in Computer Science from University of Verona, in classical guitar and composition from Music Conservatory of Verona, and in electronic music from the Royal College of Music of Stockholm. He received the Ph.D. in Media Technology from Aalborg University Copenhagen.
His scientific, artistic, and entrepreneurial research has been supported by numerous grants from different funding agencies including the European Commission (Marie Curie Individual Fellowship), the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, the European Space Agency, the Italian Ministry of University and Research, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Danish Research Council. In particular, he has been Principal Investigator of a research project of EIT Digital (European Institute of Innovation and Technology) and of the Danish Research Council. He has been Co-Investigator (responsible of unit) for University of Trento in a project of the European Space Agency.
He is Chair of the IEEE technical committee "IEEE Emerging Technology Initiative on the Internet of Sounds" (https://www.comsoc.org/about/committees/emerging-technologies-initiatives/internet-of-sounds). He is the president and founder of the Internet of Sounds Research Network (https://internetofsounds.net/). He is co-founder of the company Elk, which operates in the sector of Music Technology (www.elk.audio).
He serves as an associate editor for IEEE Access and the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society. He has been guest editor of special issues of the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, Journal of Personal and Ubiquitous Computing, Frontiers in Virtual Reality and Digital Creativity.
He is the founder and General Chair of the International Symposium on the Internet of Sounds. He has been Chair of the 27th IEEE Open Innovations Conference, 16th ACM Audio Mostly Conference, as well as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd International Symposium on the Internet of Sounds. He has been the Chair of the 1st International Workshop on Networked Immersive Audio.
He is steering committee member of Audio Mostly, as well as board member of the Italian section of the Audio Engineering Society and of the Italian Association for Music Informatics.
