Biography
Clark R. Wilson has been a professor at the University of Texas at Austin since 1976, after studies in physics and geophysics at the University of California San Diego, and Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He was appointed Carlton Centennial Professor in Geophysics in 2014, and has been an affiliate of the UT Austin Center for Space Research since 1983. Professional activities and affiliations include: Society of Exploration Geophysicists since 1969; American Geophysical Union since 1971 (now AGU life-member); Chairman of the UT Austin Geological Sciences Department 1990-94 and 2004-2007; NASA Headquarters Program Scientist for Geodynamics and Geopotential Fields 1996-99; IAG (International Association of Geodesy) Geodynamics Section President and IAG Fellow; Directing Board of the IERS (International Earth Rotation and Reference Frames Service) 2000-2015; corporate treasurer of UNAVCO (the University consortium for GPS and GNSS applications) 2002-2017. His teaching activities have spanned the full range of geophysical disciplines, and his new text for upper division students, Essentials of Geophysical Data Processing, was published by Cambridge University Press in early 2022. Research interests have included exploration geophysics, seismology, earth rotational variations, terrestrial gravimetry, and space geodesy including GRACE and GRACE Follow-On missions.
