Alvaro Hypolito

Biography

Full Professor at the Federal University of Pelotas, School of Education, Brazil, where I am the academic director of: a research group on School Governance, Curriculum and Educational Policies; research on teachers’ work and identities; I teach in Education Graduate Program (MA and PhD level), focusing on globalization and education, teachers’ work, identities and assessment, and curriculum and technologies of reform.
My research background is informed by critical and post structural theories, toward a composite approach. My research focus is on constructing an understand about managerialism, curriculum and teachers’ work, as part of technologies of reforms, in the context of globalization and neoliberalism. I started my career as a classroom teacher in 1978, as a School Principal in 1983, and started work at Federal University of Pelotas in 1986, where I still work. I have been affiliated with the University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, as a visitor researcher.
Currently, I am national coordinator of Redestrado – a Latin American research network of studies on Teachers’ work, and I also have coordinated the Curriculum Division of ANPEd – Brazilian Association of Research and Graduate Programs in Education. I am also one of the co-editors of the open journal “Currículo sem Fronteiras” - ‘Curriculum without Borders’, which has been published since 2001 (www.curriculosemfronteiras.org).
