Biography

I hold a PhD in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, MSc and BSc in Software Engineering. After my PhD graduation in 2011, I completed a postdoc position with University of Malaya working on a major multimodal speech recognition project, then I joined them as a senior lecturer in software engineering until 2014. I have been a senior lecturer in software development with the School of Digital Technologies, Manukau Institute of Technology ever since. I also worked as a fulltime software developer for Hyundai between 2004 and 2007. I am a certified software tester and completed multiple certifications on deep learning and data science as well. I am a rank B researcher on the New Zealand's Performance Based Research Framework 2018 in Mathematical and Information Technology.

In the past few years I have participated in multiple internally and externally funded research projects with the approved overall budget of more than NZD 760,000 either as the science leader, key researcher, or machine learning software developer. Most of my works have led to the collaboration with world renown researchers and academics including but not limited to Massey University, University of Malaya, and the University of Auckland, and the development of multiple software solutions and machine learning algorithms. I have published and presented 24 articles in top ranked and niche computer science journals, conferences, etc. including ten journal papers indexed by Web of Science (WoS) in which eight of the journals are ranked Q1 in different computer science categories such as software and artificial intelligence at the time of publication.

With my research I seek practical solutions to problems directly come from the industry and deal with challenges that our community face. I currently have active research interests in speaker identification, applications of deep learning algorithms in health care such as Autism screening, smoke cessation, and voice disorders therapy and speech recognition systems. My background is in software engineering and software development in which I have participated in several projects as developer, tester, project manager, researcher, etc. My master and PhD studies were focused around automated software testing based on neural networks in which I designed an automated unit testing framework. In addition to be a software developer and tester, I am highly specialised in developing solutions that utilize deep learning algorithms in different contexts. I am also an experienced Android developer and published several apps already. I have extensive hands-on experience with state-of-the-art deep learning platforms and libraries such as Keras, Tensorflow, Numpy, Pandas, scikit-learn, Flask, and am very fluent with Python since I do machine learning implementations and deployments require in my projects.
