Biography

Gül did her doctoral studies at the Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment, where she developed an interest in climate adaptation of cultural heritage. She is an architect and specialist in cultural heritage preservation. Prior to her Ph.D., she worked on several restoration projects, including an archaeological site for five years in Istanbul in Turkey. Her Ph.D. dissertation presents the impacts of climate change and other disaster risks on vernacular heritage sites from the analysis of spatial planning decisions and local practices. She became a visiting fellow at the Arctic Institute for the period of 2020-2021. She published several articles, presented at COP26 and other related conferences and events, and gave courses on this topic. She is affiliated with ICOMOS NL, ICOMOS-IFLA ISSCL, and Climate Heritage Network.

She is currently working as a Postdoc on work package three for I-Tree 2.0 NL project. As part of her work, she is conducting workshops with consortium partners for the development of the software.
