Biography

Dr. Najimu Adeniyi Adetoro is a highly accomplished Cassava Breeder and Semi Autotrophic Hydroponic (SAH) specialist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Kalambo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). With a career spanning over 25 years at IITA, Dr. Adetoro has made significant contributions in research, development, and technology transfer within the field of agriculture.

Dr. Adetoro's academic journey commenced in 1995 when he earned his Bachelor's degree with Honors in Agriculture from the University of Agriculture. Building upon this foundation, he pursued further education, obtaining a Master of Science in Agronomy from the University of Ibadan in 2005. His commitment to advancing knowledge led him to pursue a M.Phil/Ph.D. in Crop Production and Protection from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun-State, which he completed between 2008 and 2012. Undeterred in his pursuit of excellence, Dr. Adetoro continued to expand his expertise, culminating in the attainment of a Ph.D. in Crop Production and Protection in 2017.

Throughout his career progression at IITA, Dr. Adetoro has held various roles of increasing responsibility and impact. He began as a Consultant, leveraging his expertise to conduct multi-locational trials on Genotype by Environment interactions. Recognized for his exceptional capabilities, he advanced to the position of Senior Research Supervisor, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing research projects and providing strategic direction. Dr. Adetoro's dedication, coupled with his deep understanding of agricultural systems, earned him the role of International Trials Manager, where he spearheaded large-scale trials spanning multiple countries, contributing significantly to the advancement of agricultural science and technology.

In his capacity as a Cassava Breeder and SAH specialist, Dr. Adetoro has demonstrated a keen ability to bridge the gap between research and practical application, leading to tangible outcomes in crop improvement and agricultural sustainability. His work not only enriches the scientific community but also has far-reaching implications for food security and livelihoods in regions where cassava is a staple crop.

Dr. Adetoro's illustrious career trajectory is a testament to his unwavering commitment to agricultural innovation and his invaluable contributions to the mission of IITA in addressing the challenges facing tropical agriculture.
